Who stated mothers’ day? Why? Why March? Any answers other than the card industry you idiot.?

Mother's Day is in May. It is a very nice holiday. Whoever started it should get a pat on the back.

Who stated mothers’ day? Why? Why March? Any answers other than the card industry you idiot.?
Originally conceived by Julia Ward Howe after the American Civil War as a day honoring (in her opinion) the inherent pacifism of mothers, Mother's Day now simply celebrates motherhood and thanking mothers. Mothers often receive gifts on this day.

Mother's Days are celebrated on various days of the year in different countries because they have a number of different origins. One school of thought claims this day emerged from a custom of mother worship in ancient Greece. Mother worship — which kept a festival to Cybele, a great mother of gods, and Rhea, the wife of Cronus — was held on March 15 to March 18 around Asia Minor.

In most countries, Mother's Day is a new concept copied from western civilization. In many African countries, Mother's Day has its origins in copying the British concept. In most of East Asia, Mother's Day is a heavily marketed and commercialised concept copied straight from Mother's Day in the USA.

Mother's Day in the U.S. is the second Sunday in May.
Reply:nobody really knows who created mothers day but for me mothers day is in may since it's the time of spring and it's a pretty adequate time for woman mothers since all the beauty and stuff in nature, and mothers day really is just a day were we show appreciation of our moms since they have been taking care of us mostly for half of their life's,that's pretty good of them, well it's a good time, but i think they invented that specific holiday because it boosts the sales in every stores like men run around buying big gifts, jewelry and all that expensive stuff for the moms out there. But i think just a flower gives more meaning that a millions of gifts.kids 8 and down really are good thinkers in this stuff, most of the people think of fancy stuff.
Reply:Is it on march?is it on march?? It's not..Mother's Day's on May..y'know!
Reply:I don't really know who started Mother's Day. Maybe Mary started it because she gave birth to Jesus while still a virgin. Now that's somethin' to reserve a day for!

Too bad epidurals didn't exist! "OUCH"

For the record, Mother's Day is in May. Duh!
Reply:Don't know why, but where i live and where I came from it is definitely march. Different day but still march :D
