How long does US mail take if mailed in the same city it's sent to?

i want to know when i have to send my mother's day cards so that they'll get there on Saturday.

How long does US mail take if mailed in the same city it's sent to?
If you deliver them to your post office EARLY the day before, then there is a fair chance it would get delivered on the desired day.

Often there is a time cut-off for delivery (especially if you are using a mailbox drop, read the pickup times sticker). In small towns you may want to add a day or two because in some cases the mail goes to another city to be sorted and returned, so if your letter gets to the other town after their next-day cut-off there will be a delay.

Our sorting system may get bad press, but I read a while back about how Italians had better luck if they mailed their letters first to Switzerland because of the demands by participation in the international postal organization they belonged to. One member of the Italian parliment asked if the head of the Italian post office could promise "same month delivery". He couldn't.

Good luck.
Reply:US Postal guidelines specifically forbid delivering mail late, especially after your period. Report Abuse
Reply:Mail before 5PM,they get it next day.I live in Houston 4th Largest city in U.S.
Reply:Next day delivery.
Reply:I'd say 24 - 48 hours.
Reply:That all depends on where your post office sends mail to be sorted. Most post offices send their mail to a central mail facility to be sorted. But Thursday should be a good day to mail it.
Reply:It would be better to go the post office on Friday morning, and on Saturday your mom will get her post card, good luck.
Reply:Next day or till your next period.
Reply:Play it safe! Mail on Thursday! Nothing worse than the card being late...but usually takes overnite...Do you really want to cut it that close??? Good luck
Reply:SENT IT IN FRIDAY WITH EXPRESS MAIL.IT COST A LOT BUT SURE COME HANDY IN SATURDAY
Reply:if you reside in the same city send it out on Thursday
Reply:next day delivery for 100 miles or less;)
Reply:I'll have experience 1-2 days. No more than that. Most times is just 1 day.
Reply:If it's in the same city, mail them by Friday morning.
Reply:Max 2 business days
Reply:24 hours
Reply:two days , depending on if your main mail center is far away or, its holiday,
Reply:It depends on the city...in my small town, if you mail something to someone in this town, it goes to a sorting center an hour and 1/2 away and comes back. Silly, I know, but I've had mail take 2 days to get a mile a way.
Reply:ask the post man.
Reply:It will probably take a couple of days because it still has to go through the mail system and put into re-distribution. You could just drop it in her box when you know she is sleep or hasn't checked it yet that day.
